What is a transponder key?
A key with a small chip in the plastic head. When you turn the ignition, the car's immobilizer challenges the chip; no valid response, no start — the engine cranks but never fires, or starts and dies in two seconds. Nearly every vehicle built since the early 2000s uses one.
Why won't my hardware-store key copy start my car?
The kiosk or counter duplicated the metal blade but not the chip, so the door opens and the cylinder turns while the immobilizer still blocks the engine. We either clone your working chip onto the copy or program the new key directly to the vehicle — both are quick mobile jobs.
How much does a transponder key cost in Arlington?

A standard add-a-key procedure keeps your existing keys registered — the new key simply joins them. The exception is a stolen-key or all-keys-lost procedure, where we deliberately wipe the registry for security and re-enroll only the keys you hand us. Bring every key you want to keep to that appointment.
How long does transponder work take at the curb?
Cloning a chip from a working key runs about 15-30 minutes. Programming a fresh transponder to the immobilizer usually lands in the 20-40 minute range, though a few GM and European systems enforce fixed security wait timers that stretch the visit — we warn you about those when we quote.
